The Ocean Hurricanes U16 girls competed in the 2018 EDP Spring Classic on March 17th and March 18th at the Tuckahoe Farms complex. During what turned out to be a cold and windy Saturday, the Hurricanes began their weekend by playing a smart game while pulling off a 4-0 victory over the Liverpool FCIA Western Maryland 2002 G team. The second game of the day, against the Baltimore Celtics Elite from Maryland, proved to be much tighter as the Hurricanes had to battle strong winds and frigid temperatures. With many opportunities in both halves of the game the Hurricanes walked away with a 0-0 tie. Sunday would bring its own challenges for the Hurricanes by starting the day against the Union County FC Premier UCFC Spurs. The Hurricanes took a 1 -0 lead in the second half, which was quickly equalized by the Spurs. As time was running out, the Hurricanes scored their second and game winning goal to end the game with a 2-1 victory. The victory lead the Hurricanes to the finals against the Northport Cow Harbor United Impact from New York, which would turn out to be another tight first half when the Hurricanes entered the second half while tied 0-0. As time was running out and thoughts were shifting to a shootout, the Hurricanes put one into the back of the net taking a 1-0 lead. The girls, although exhausted from battling four competitive teams and the weather, never took their foot off the gas. They continued to press and held off the impact to the last whistle, winning the finals by a score of 1-0. The Ocean Hurricanes proudly accepted the 2018 EDP Spring Classic Champion Medals and walked off the fields proudly after a long weekend.
